FootballSSG competitions are held at Pittwater Rat Park, North Narrabeen and Brookvale Oval, Brookvale FootballSSG are Manly Warringah summer soccer competitions run mid-week, on your choice of Tuesday or Thursday afternoons and evenings We created the FootballSSG to aid in the ongoing growth and development of the game of football, and in particular, to aid in the natural development of player’s technical skills The basics of FootballSSG and futsal are very similar. Most of the rules are similar including: the size of the field; the non-contact nature of play; and the length of the matches. The key and fundamental difference between FootballSSG and futsal is that we play on turf and use a turf ball (like you would use in your full-sized-field winter competition). This is because we want our players to improve their technical football skills, something we feel is best done using the ball and the surface they will experience in their regular winter competition. You might just want to have fun. You might want to improve or enhance your fitness. All of these are valid reasons to play FootballSSG, Manly Warringah summer soccer. And it helps to improve tactical skills such as using space, passing and moving and playing a through ball.

Summer Months Competition - Information For All Age Groups

When will the season start?

The 2017 Summer Months Competition will kick off on Wednesday January 11th January 18th.

Where will the games played?

All games in the 2017 Summer Months Competition will be played at David Thomas Playing Fields, located at Sloane Crescent, Manly Vale (just around the corner from Warringah Mall).

What time will the games played?

We won’t know with certainty until we start producing the fixtures, but games will be played based on one of the following three schedules:
(a) kick off times at 4:30pm , 5:15pm , 6:00pm , 6:45pm , 7:30pm and 8:15pm  OR
(b) kick off times at 4:45pm , 5:30pm , 6:15pm , 7:00pm , 7:45pm and 8:30pm  OR
(c) kick off times at 5:00pm , 5:45pm , 6:30pm , 7:15pm and 8:00pm
The youngest players (Under 6/7) will kick off first and then we’ll run through the age groups, with the “biggest kids” (the adults) playing in the later time slots. The latest possible kick off time is 8:30pm.

When will the season finish?

The 2017 Summer Months Competition will conclude mid-to-late March. The actual finish date may be affected by inclement weather (ie - we may need to postpone games if there’s storms etc) which would push back the end date of the season. If we do not need to postpone any games, the season would finish on Wednesday 8th March.

How do I know what age group to register for?

Your age group is determined by the age that you will turn at your birthday in the calendar year of the competition. If you are turning 8 years of age in 2017, you are considered “Under 8”. If you are turning 15 years of age in 2017, you are considered “Under 15”. If you are turning 35 years of age in 2017, you are considered “Over 35” (even if you’re still 34 while the Summer Months Competition is being played).

What is the registration fee?

$130 for mixed-gender competitions for ages U6/7 and U8/9
$145 for boy’s-only and girl’s-only competitions for ages U9/10, U11/12, U13/14 and U15/16/17
$160 for adult’s competitions (Open Age and Over 35)
Note that players who were registered to play FootballSSG in Spring 2016 (playing at either Rat Park or Brookvale Oval) will receive a discount of $15 on the fee, which will be organised as a refund in the first few weeks of the Summer Months season.

What is included in the fee?

The fee is all-inclusive and covers the cost of the fields, the referees, match balls supplied for every game, player insurances, etc etc.

What isn’t included?

Important to note for everyone that regularly plays FootballSSG ... as a result of Council only having granted us access to fields on December 15th, there is no time for us to organise team playing kits for everyone ... YOU WILL NEED TO ORGANISE YOUR OWN PLAYING KITS ... you will need to ensure that your team has matching shirts and shorts (socks too preferably, but not essential for this competition)

Is it 5-a-side or 6-a-side?

All games in all age groups will be played 6-a-side ... that means a goalie plus five other players on the field.

How many players do we need to have in our team?

You are required to have at least eight (8) players registered in your team. This is for two reasons:
(a) to best ensure that teams will not forfeit a game due to lack of numbers if someone is away
(b) because we’ve based the registration fee, which obviously needs to cover the cost of running the competition, on the expectation that each team will have at least eight players.

Can we have more than eight players in our team?

Yes, you can have as many players in your team as you want BUT you can only have ten (10) players involved in any game. Note that we recommend that either eight (8) or nine (9) players is best.

Are the teams graded?

Definitely yes. When we have sufficient teams registering for an age group, we grade them (based on the information you provide at the time of registering) so that teams are as evenly matched as possible.

When can I register?

Registrations will be open from Sunday 18th December and will remain open until the start of the competition. Please note that no new teams will be accepted in to the competition after Saturday 7th January (unless that team would create an even number of teams in an age group) as it would otherwise be impossible to produce the fixtures in time to start the competition.

Is there a discount if I am late registering?

No, late registrations do not receive any discount on the registration fees.
