22 September - Match results from round 1 are in
All match results from the first week of play have been recorded and the competition tables updated.
20 September - Registrations update
We are desperately seeking players to join existing (but incomplete) teams in the following age groups. If you’re keen, just register ... the available places go to the next registrations we receive. If the spot has already been filled, we’ll obviously provide a refund.
Girls Under 12 - Monday competition at Curl Curl ... we’re looking for 3-4 players
All teams in all other age groups are full and we are no longer accepting registrations for new teams in any age group.
11 September - Spring 2023 season fixtures are now online
Fixtures for all competitions for the Spring 2023 season are now online. They’ve been triple-checked but it’s still possible that we’ve made a mistake so, please, follow us on Twitter because that is where we will post any time-critical communications about changes to fixtures (as well as any information about weather-related game postponements).
29 August - Registrations closing imminently
Registrations for new teams will close at 9pm Friday 1st September.
Registrations for individuals who have been invited to join an existing (already accepted) team and who wish to participate in the first game of the season close at 9pm Sunday 3rd September.
Note that the registration system will still be running but the above dates/times are the cut-off times, after which we will be focusing solely on the task of getting the season up and running for the ~3,000 people that have already registered. Late registering players will be processed weekly after the start of the season and will need to have registered at least seven days prior to the date they wish to commence playing (to give us time to organise their insurances and their playing kits).
14 August - Registrations will close soon
We are right at the pointy end of the registrations process.
We have space for additional individual players, small groups (ie - not full teams) and for full teams who wish to play at Curl Curl on Mondays. Check which competitions are offered at Curl Curl on Mondays.
We have very limited space for individual players, small groups (ie - not full teams) and for full teams who wish to play at Rat Park on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Check which competitions are offered at Rat Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you have been invited to join an existing team playing at Rat Park on Wednesdays, you can still register. However, please do not register to play at Rat Park on Wednesdays if you’ve not been specifically invited by a team to join them because we are full at Rat Park on Wednesdays and we’ll just have to give you a refund.
Each year we get lots of players registering as individuals or small groups who are hoping to be assembled in to teams, and we do our very best to try to get them all placed in to teams. It doesn't work out for everyone, we'd estimate that we're successful 90-95% of the time.
The process of placing these players in to teams starts this week. Individuals or small groups are placed in to teams on a "first come" basis, so our advice to everyone who wants to play is to register ASAP as that will put you nearer the front of the queue.
Obviously, if it doesn't work out, we will provide a full refund. Please note, however, that if you register using an Active Kids Voucher and we're unable to get you in a team, there is no way for us to "refund" that Voucher for you (it's not how the Service NSW system works) but we would happily transfer the value of that Voucher to another Authorised Active Kids Provider when you register with them ... this is explained on the Government's web site https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/active-kids-recipient-TandC
If you have a small group, for example - two or three players, please contact Stuart (info@footballssg.com) before registering so that he can explain what we need you each to enter on the rego form so that we know to keep you together as a group.

Early bird registration bonuses
Teams that have at least eight players registered before July 23rd will receive two bonuses:
Every player that has registered before that date will get an (approximately) 10% discount on the standard registration fee. The discount is already calculated on the registration form and will revert back up to the standard fee on July 24th.
AND
The team will get to choose their playing colours from our ten available colour-ways. The way this works is: (1) We record the date and time that each player is registered (2) We grade all the teams in a particular age group and assemble them in to competitions (3) In each competition we look to see which teams qualified to choose their colours by having at least eight players registered and, of those, we determine the order in which they were registered based on the date/time their eighth player was registered. (4) We then contact each team, in the order that they qualified, to obtain their colour choice. The team that qualifies first gets first choice, the team that qualifies second gets second choice, etc etc.
What else do you get when you play FootballSSG ?
FootballSSG is the Northern Beaches’ longest-running, best organised and most fun 6-a-side football competition.
Included in your registration fee is, well, pretty much everything. We provide every player with a full playing kit (jersey, shorts and socks) plus a goalkeeper jersey for each team. We provide referees for every game, plenty of match footballs on every field for every game, official time keepers, on site assistance and the best, clear, accurate, relevant and timely communications that you’ll experience in a community-based sporting organisation.
You simply need to organise your team of 8-10 players and a manager. We look after everything else.
The role of the manager at FootballSSG is very, very simple. Your tasks are: - at the advised time before the season starts, collect (or have someone else collect) your team’s player kits - distribute your team’s player kits to the players - before the start of each game, complete the team’s details on the Match Record Sheet - during the game, organise (or have someone else organise) the player substitutions such that every player gets a fair go - at the conclusion of each game, sign the Match Record Sheet to confirm your agreement with the score as recorded
When we established the competition back in 2007, we wanted to create a place where players could just come and have fun, where parents could enjoy themselves and not feel pressured to ‘volunteer’ and where the referees and field officials felt safe and supported as they learn to be the best they can be. All these years later, with various ‘tweaks’ along the way, we’re confident we’ve got things just about as right as they can be.
Sub Junior Coaching Handbook
Developed over many years and used by many coaches of sub junior and/or inexperienced players of any age who have a “weaker foot” or who are looking to improve their spacial awareness.
I’ve personally used many of the drills with ages including Under 6, Under 7, Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Open Age Men and Over 35 Men and Women with great success.
My favourite YouTube video ... have you got a FootballSSG video that you would like us to share?
If you’ve got 9 minutes spare, check this out (video produced by Matt Leiper in 2012 ... honestly I get a buzz every time I watch these superstars of the future)
Have you liked us on Facebook yet ?
We’re the most liked small-sided football competition in Sydney ... and we want to be the most liked community football-related Facebook page in Sydney too.
Why not check it out and, if you like FootballSSG ... show it on Facebook by liking us and sharing our Facebook page with your friends ... because we want EVERYONE to know about FootballSSG
We have NEVER missed a game due to wet weather
This is a claim that we can no longer make. After twelve years and almost 20,000 games scheduled, in our Spring 2019 season we were unable to re-schedule and play 49 games that we chose not to play on the day that Sydney was placed under a State Of Emergency due to extreme heat and bushfire activity/threat. In the weeks that followed that day we were affected by rain and so lost those 49 games.
We really were not happy about it, but the fact is that now we can only claim that over twelve years and 20,000 scheduled games we have only missed 0.25% of games due to extreme weather events.
We still know you just want to play, so we only use the best quality fields with the best irrigation and drainage systems, so you get to play. After all, that is what you want, isn’t it? When you register to play, you just want to be able to play!
STILL Sydney’s favourite small-sided football competition
- 760 players in 2008 (our first year) - - Over 2,500 players in 2013 - - 4,500 players in 2017 - That’s 35% growth, year on year!
Be a part of the best organised and best fun small sided football competition in Sydney. We’ve got something for everyone:
- Boys, Girls, Men’s & Ladies’ competitions - - All age groups from Under 6 to Over 35 -
